WG3 - Assembling data and meta data

The objective of WG3 will be to address the challenge of providing open-access data and information from the different projects and sites in a database as basis for extensive analyses, general synthesis and modelling. A focus on both the short- and long-term contribution of soil fauna to all aspects of SOM dynamics will be part of another subtask within the WG3. Another subtask will be to identify the needs and most useful means to promote data sharing and identify current obstacles and needed promotions. Strategies for promotion of data sharing facilities based on databases or web or cloud based data sharing “hubs” will be outlined and implemented within this subtask.

Working group leader: Dr Davorka Hackenberger, Department of Biology, Croatia, davorka@biologija.unios.hr

The main task of this working group is to collect and assemble data from different sites as a basis for extensive analysis.

During the course of this action WG3 will address the challenge of providing open-access data and information from different projects. Therefore the members of WG3 have contacted scientists that already have existing databases on soil fauna, (e.g. Bioassess, Ecofinders, Macrofauna, Edaphobase).

WG3 members will create a template for common field experiment data and a database from field experiment data.

WG3 will try to identify the needs and most useful means to promote data sharing and identify current obstacles and needed promotions. As a result strategies for promotion of data sharing facilities based on databases, web or cloud based data sharing “hubs” will be outlined.

WG3 will interact and discuss with all other WGs in the KEYSOM action about the data sharing issue and about their needs and acquirements when using a database or a datawarehouse (what would they add, change or remove).

WG3 will also organize a workshop with experimentalists and data managers from major national and European framework projects to discuss and propose solutions to data sharing issues. Try to establish linkages with other databases and initiatives.
